Senior Lecturer, Committee on Geographical Sciences, University of Chicago

The Division of Social Sciences at the University of Chicago invites applicants for a position as Senior Lecturer in the Committee on Geographic Science and in the College. This is a full-time, career-track teaching position beginning in the 2020–21 academic year. We anticipate that by the start of the appointment, the title of this position will be on the Senior Instructional Professor track.The initial three-year appointment is renewable with opportunity for promotion. The Senior Lecturer will teach five courses in the GIScience program, including at least one in the undergraduate College core. In addition, in consultation with faculty leadership the Senior Lecturer is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricular programs in Geographic Information Science; supervising other teaching personnel; providing academic and career advice to students; and contributing to the development and academic administration of degree programs in Geographic Information Science. Specifically, the Senior Lecturer will develop new courses for the College Minor in Geographic Information Science, manage recruiting and advising for the GIScience track in the MA Program in Social Sciences (MAPSS), and manage the College core SSI Spatial Analysis track.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have the PhD in hand prior to the start date, a demonstrated record as a degreed professional designing and teaching courses to undergraduate and graduate students at a selective research university, and demonstrated experience in research and practice related to Geographic Information Science and Spatial Analysis. Experience in managing a program and supervising academic personnel is preferred.
